It doesn’t matter what age you are, one of the most exciting things is getting a new bike! “New Bike Days” don’t happen often for most of us and when they do the level of enthusiasm shoots through the roof. Before one can even get it all dialed in and properly fitted, they are already planning rides and looking forward to future events. Some may get excited and start getting some new accessories looking into some cycling attire.
Now that your new ZiZZO has shown up on your doorstep one may be wanting to hurry up and start popping off the staples of the box. As you make that final pull to get the bike out you can already picture yourself cruising down the road in minutes. Did you read the manual? Did you watch the YouTube “Getting Started” series? Maybe not and I totally get it. When I buy something I’m excited about, I just want to get right to the fun stuff. Eventually I may have come back but it is easy to miss some important features when you blow right through the instructions. We get calls all the time from new ZiZZO Owners who maybe skipped to the “good stuff” and missed a few details when unboxing.
Here are the top 5 questions along with some solutions.
“My ZiZZO is stuck. These metal things are keeping it from opening”
Almost every time this happens it is because the rider didn't know that all models (except the Ferro) come with magnets that keep the 2 sides together. Those little magnets can be strong and for good reason. Having the bike unfold while walking and carrying it would not be fun. Occasionally the front magnet can come out of adjustment slightly and go behind the other magnet causing them to be “locked” into place. With a small wrench the front magnet on the forks can be loosened and readjusted as needed to match up perfectly with the back when folded. Everyone has different levels of strength so find what works for you and remember to bend your knees as you prepare to pull a part. Magnet Adjust Video Click Here
“My tires are flat. I thought it was supposed to be ready out of the box”
ZiZZO bikes have standard tire and tube configuration. When they are at the factory, they are tested to make sure they hold air at full pressure. Once they pass that test and many others they are carefully boxed up with protective packaging. Tubes will naturally start to lose air, and the tire can be very low or even flat after sitting for long periods of time in the box. You will need to pump up the tires to the recommended pressure printed on the side. The valve stems that you attach the pump to are the “schrader” style so make sure you use the right pump nozzle/head. I would advise against using a gas station air compressor.

“The brakes are rubbing against the side of the rim”
This situation can be resolved in multiple ways, but I am going to start with the simplest one that seems to be the most common and can be fixed without tools. If the ZiZZO’s brake cables are not in a giant “C” shape or ½ loop out front of the bikes front wheel we may have an issue. Sometimes riders new to folding accidentally twist the cables around the stem, neck, or handlebars which causes extra tension on the brake pads causing them to close in on the rim and rub. I have seen pictures where all it took was a full 180-degree rotation to fix the issue. If the cables are correct the next step is to squeeze the brake levers very tight and hold for 30-45 seconds and then release and flutter. Do this multiple times to help “stretch” the cables. If these two suggestions don’t work, then we suggest watching the video on how to adjust the “brake calipers” with a screwdriver at the following link. It will help “pull away” the pads away from the rims enough to make clearance.
“My seat post keeps sliding down when I ride”
This may be the most common one. There are two places to adjust the seat post. The first is the obvious quick release latch with the knurled nut. Open the latch, set the height of the seat post to your desired height, spin the knurled nut with your thumb and first finger clockwise to tighten and then close the latch. If the latch is too easy to close in place, then you may have to open it up again and then spin that nut again. It doesn’t take much. Then try closing. It should almost be difficult to get that last part closed. If that still isn’t solving the issue, there is a tiny little hole on the seat post that has a “set screw” in it. Grab a 2 mm allen wrench and tighten it up. Don’t forget “righty tighty, lefty loosey” CLICK TO WATCH VIDEO
“My ZiZZO isn’t folding like I thought it would”
It is easy to unfold, but folding requires certain steps to make the parts match up to fold properly. I like to start with kick stand down. Go to the handlebars, undo latch, and then rotate so the brake levers are to the sky. Then undo the latch for the telescoping stem and bring it as high as it will go. Even past the final markers until it stops. Then fold down the whole stem down to the left as snug against the wheel. Next step is to make the pedal on the left side in the 9 o Clock position. Now undo the seat post latch and let it go down as far as it can go then spin the seat backwards point opposite of normal. Now fold up the kickstand. Depending on what frame lock style you have, carefully undo it. You may have to slide the “silver ball” forward for certain models like Liberte, Urbano, Marino, Forte, E-Forte, Etc. The other models may have a different version so be aware of how it works before forcing anything. Now separate the frames into two halves and fold. You may have to move the brakes cables off to the side near the end but if you did everything correct it will come together at the magnets (if you have them). Video On How To Fold /Unfold Click Here
