Nobody’s going to argue 2020 upended a lot of things. Festivals, events, life in general. It also bumped Bike Month from its yearly May time slot to September. While there may not be as many bike festivals, local family fun rides and even races in your community this Bike Month, at ZiZZO we say so what? The sun is shining and September is one of the most beautiful months of the year to get out, ride your Zizzo (or other bike) and see your neighborhood from two wheels. Need some Bike Month inspiration for things to do? Read on …
Organize a local ride: Bike Month was started in 1956 by the League of American bicyclists in an effort to encourage Americans to ride their bikes, commute by bike and come together as a community. It’s the perfect opportunity to organize an end of summer community bike ride with neighbors, friends or family members – and with a few precautions is, bicycling is one of the safest Covid-era activities you can do. Build in a mid-ride ice cream stop for extra motivation.
Bike to School Day: If schools are open, or partially open, in your neck of the woods, try this annual fun event with school friends and families. National Walk and Bike to School Day this year just misses Bike Month on October 2, 2020 (but it’s close enough). It’s a great way for kids who live close to their schools but may normally take the bus, to try something new and get a little exercise. http://www.walkbiketoschool.org/ has good ideas about how to organize a ride or walk in your neighborhood.
Take the Pledge: Many people use Bike Month to take the 30 Days of Biking pledge – a commitment to ride your bike every day for 30 days, to the grocery store, work, a class or wherever. You can find more info or create a pledge for friends to join by visiting 30daysofbiking.com.
Bring ZiZZO ANYWHERE and Stay Flexible: If all that sounds a bit much to bite off, just take Bike Month easy. Store your ZiZZO in the trunk of your car for the month. Every ZiZZO folds small and tight and takes up just a fraction of a regular car or SUV trunk. There’s still plenty of room for groceries and everything else. Do this and you’ll always be ready to squeeze in a fun, stress-busting bike ride wherever you are, whatever you’re doing – and will never have to ride home after!
Don’t own as ZiZZO yet. The fun awaits: www.zizzo.bike/bikes
