ZiZZO Celebrates National Dog Day

Did you know August is #NationalDogMonth and August 26th is #NationalDogDay? Oh, how we love our furry family members! No, I’m not talking about that odd uncle or cousin, I’m talking about a man’s best friend. We take them everywhere with us from the park to the beach or even in the store. We dress them up in crazy outfits and almost treat them like humans. There is no denying the loyalty and that unconditional love they give us is so special.

Over the years of riding, one of the most entertaining sites has always been watching my friends who go cycling with their beloved canines. I’m not sure who is having more fun, the pet or the rider. Whether it was my crazy mountain biking friend with his pit-bull spewing slobber all over on the downhill or my friend with his poodle in a backpack on a leisurely spin downtown they radiate an amazing sense of joy.

Have you ever taken your pup out on a ride with your ZiZZO folding bike? Have you thought about it? I think it may be easier than you expect. Since the ZiZZO is so nimble with its 20-inch wheels and a low center of gravity, it could possibly be one of the most stable bikes for a cruise with the pooch.

CONSULT WITH VETERINARIAN ZiZZO and Veterinarians National Dog Month

But before you start, you may want to see if your dog is ready. The American Kennel Club (AKC) says, “Before you try riding with your dog, consult with your veterinarian to confirm if your dog is in the right physical condition to do it safely. They should also assess to see if your dog is able to keep up with a bicycle. Most small-to-medium dogs cannot keep up with a bike because of their shorter legs. Because of this, it is best to allow only healthy, large dogs to run alongside your bike.”

If you have a small dog, of course there are fun things you can use on your ride like pooch back packs, trailers, and baskets.  Over the last year or so, we have loved seeing all the great pictures of people enjoying a ride out in the country or the beach with their pets. The smiles are always extra big in those pictures. If you do go out and take a few selfies with your dog in tow or hanging out in a basket, tag us on our Instagram Page so we can share the fun!

Per the AKC website, www.akc.org, here are some things to consider to keep you and your dog safe:

  1. Go short distances to start and at a very slow pace until they get used to it.
  2. Praise them and give treats when they do well by staying alongside you.
  3. Be aware of the heat of the concrete as it can be harmful to their paws.
  4. If you put them in a basket, make sure that the product is meant for this purpose and follow directions
  5. Let them get used to a basket getting in and out before trying to ride with them in it.

TIME TO BOND ZiZZO Celebrates National Dog Month on the Beach

How much fun would it be to grab your dog, throw the ZIZZO 2022 Campo in the trunk, and go for a day trip to the beach? Since a ZiZZO folds down so small, you would have plenty of room in the trunk for coolers of drinks, food, towels, and of course some treats for the pup!

After getting some training at home with a bike leash, maybe your doggie buddy could run alongside you on the beach as the waves crash in the distance. That sounds like a day to remember! Maybe you can get a nice trailer or basket specifically meant for dogs and head out downtown for an ice cream. Always a conversation starter for sure.

Before you know it, people will be chatting with you like old friends because everyone loves a cute dog hanging out with its favorite human. And don’t be surprised that your ZiZZO may be getting a few looks as well. It happens everywhere I go, “What’s that? It folds?”

Just be aware that as you explain how cool your ZiZZO Ferro is while giving passers-byers a full demonstration of its folding abilities, your furry pal may be eyeballing that ice cream and might go for a taste too. I highly suggest bringing some treats with you, otherwise when you turn back from looking away for a second, you may see a vanilla beard and a smile on your pup’s face.
